im comming back from Dulles VA last saturday night from the maverick round up, all's going good untill my car suddenly dies out, i pop the hood and what do i see? the fuel pump had cracked in 2! the two bolts, the flange and the "arm" were still connected to the block but the brass piece was hanging limp but the two gas lines. it was a perfectly clean crack around the flange. the pump its self was only about a year and a half old with 8,000 miles on it. it was a nappa piece too, i had always expected a higher quality from them compared to cheap-zone.
so there i was about 30 miles outside baltimore on the side of I-95 N somewhere in MD, 6:30pm. one of the road side assistance guys called me a tow truck. i told him just tow me to the nearest autoparts store, i can fix it myself. $120 later im about 5 miles away getting dumped off at the local atuo-zone. $22 for a new pump and about 10mins of work shes running again and i made it home.
so im still not sure what to blame this on? obviously it must have been the result of just getting a POS casting. usually i only go around town with the car, no more then 20 miles at a time. the round-up was a 300 mile round trip (DE to VA). i made it there fine and almost back home. so im thinking the 150 mile 2hr trip in the morning + the 100 miles it did on the way back was a little more then it could take all at once. If anything was going to go wrong i thought it was going to be my oil pump so i guess its not as bad as it could have been
