Fuel Pump Filter Question

I wanted to replace the fuel pump filter on my 200 inline 6 engine before installing a new carburetor.

My question is:

Is the Fuel Pump Filter part of the fuel pump itself or can they be separated? Cuz I looked at mine and it seems to be one piece.

Is there a better kind of Fuel Pump Filter available?

What type & brand?

Any pictures? Thanks in advance.

does it look like this one in the pic ?

the top canister unscrews. if it doesn't look like this, the filter is separate.

On some engines the fuel filter is part of the pump as a screw-on canister. If that is the one you have, just change it. If there is an in-line filter get a new one like it and swap it out. If neither of those conditions exist, obtain an in-line filter at any parts house and splice it in. They are all pretty much generic...no particular make or PN necessary.

Thanks for the picture and for the relpy guys.

My filter does not seem to be a screw on filter. It looks like 2 canisters side by side and the diameter of each canister is probably the diameter of a quarter coin.

One canister is connected to the fuel line from the gas tank while the other is connected to the fuel line that goes to the Carb.

But it doesent seem like it can be separated from the fuel pump. It looks like it is one piece but this seems odd.

Does this mean that for me to change the fuel pump filter I would have to change the fuel pump too? Thanks.

If it does not look like the one in the picture it does not have the screw on canister. If there is not an in-line filter either before the pump or between the pump and carb by all means put one in.

If it is the above style there also needs to be a little brass adapter between the carb and the filter. I believe the filter is a tapered pipe thread but the carb is a straight thread that uses a washer to seal.

Thanks guys,

I found out that I have no filter at all on the fuel pump. The only filter I have is just before the carb.

Although I found that when the engine is running , the fuel pump is spitting out fuel. It seems to be comming out from the side of the pump.
