All Small Six oil leaking from the fuel pump?

Hey all,

The 170 cid in my '62 Fairlane 500 likes to leave its mark on my garage floor, and seems to be coming from the fuel pump (which seems a little odd to me). Not a lot - just enough to be irritating.

I changed out the gasket, and still the fuel pump seems to be sweating, and it's definitely not gas.
I'm also sure that oil & gas are not mixing, and there's no gas in the oil pan.

The next logical step is to replace the pump, which is no problem. Thing is - the pump is working fine. This car runs better than ever, actually.

Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this, and maybe know why it might happen.

thx

fuel part of pump is saved from most leakage but the cam arm pivot pin is open to crankcase gases - with time and regular operation wear, can be a source of sweating.
.

any sweating from distributor seal area also will be swept back onto fuel pump as well.

hav fun

Let me verify, are you having an oil leak? As you say “sweating”, is it oil sweating or another fluid?
Fuel pumps do have a small hole, about pencil lead size, that will leak oil if the diaphragm on the inside of the pump has failed. 🤔

It's oil, not gas - of this, I can be sure. I've just never had a fuel pump do this. Usually they just stop working.

This fuel pump has been on the car a long time, so I've ordered a fresh one.

New fuel pump arrived, its been in there about 2 weeks now, and after my longest drive since installing it, it started bogging and running rough.

I put in new spark plugs, fresh coil, new fuel filter...

30 minutes down the road and the bogging returns.

I'm currently scrubbing out the vent tube and filler cap... but if it ain't that, then I'll be out of ideas... short of putting the old fuel pump back in to see if that does anything, I suppose.

I think I would look more at ignition. It ok when cold, problems when it gets hot. I would be suspicious of the coil 🤔 maybe put the old one back in and see if any difference.
At least it’s not leaking
