Oil pump for a 64 bolt into a 62 223 block?

Hi, I'm hoping for a bit of insider information here:
I put a distributor out of a 300 with electronic ignition into my 62. I've got it running on a 1/4" drive impact socket set into the 62 oil pump driven by the 5/16" 300 six distributor shaft. Had Bill Ambler do the re-curve on the advance, and after getting it running, I haven't run it much since, partly because I'm not entirely trusting my oil pump drive shaft setup.
Will a 64 oil pump (which has a 5/16 drive shaft) bolt right in to my 62 block, or is it not that easy? They look the same in pictures, but I don't have a spare either one to check before I tear into it.

I'm not too comfortable running it the way it is with the impact socket as an adapter.

Thank you

Yes the pump is the same w 5/16 drive i have the length dimension on the drive shaft u will need or make from allen stock

I did this swap and quickly found out that the oil pump pickup tube is different, and pretty hard to find too. The 64 oil pump draws from the side, the others draw from the bottom. I was also concerned about snapping that little chinesium shaft. However, I’ve beaten the heck out of those little adapters with my Milwaukee cordless impact gun and I’ve never broken one. I only decided to do the oil pump swap because I wanted to run 20/50w to try and quiet down those solid lifters a bit, which didn’t work lol.

The pickup tube I used is Ford part # C1AE-6623-A. These are rare and expensive so if you can modify your original then I would consider it.

I used a Melling M67A pump which is readily available and not expensive. They do bolt right up with no issues. You need to use the correct shoulder bolts or the pump may not stay aligned with the distributor. Remember to use some anaerobic sealant on the bolts.

The proper oil pump driveshaft is Melling IS67A. It is a few thousandths undersized from a typical Allen key, not sure about the hex drive tool but that’s something to consider. Some engineer made that call for a reason.

Good luck
