Does anyone have the list of chemicals used in cleaning up an old gas tank?
I read the list somewhere and would swear I tagged it in my favorites.
However, I can not ressurect the site!
It wasn't anything like walnut hulls etc.
Was chemical solutions.
Appreciate it.
Tanks. chuckle chuckle

Visit your local motorcycle shop. There is a kit you can buy for metal gas tanks. It's a three stage process and works fairly well. Not sure what it's called as I have not used it in sometime but just tell them what your trying to do.

Now I remember, the information was on a MC website.
Thanks.
Now to clean.

I bought a kit from eastwood....but JCW has a similar kit for cheap. basicly it had a metal cleaner that neutralized and removed the varnish and residue. next it was washed with muractic acid and rinsed with water and then denautred alcohol and then sealed with sealer. you could prob skip the cleaning step and just use some dish soap and water. have a gravel drive or bad area to do it as any spilled acid will etch concrete and kill grass so a bad patch of yard or back alley is the place to do it at. another thing you may want to put some large gravel in the tank and roll it around to loosen the rust before starting (makes everything work better with less in teh way) I did my tank 3 years ago and it has held up fine (but the tank itself is too far gone and needs replaced)

I used the Eastwood kit on my Ranchero, it worked very well.. Being it's not easy to find a tank for a '69 Ranchero it was well worth the purchase...

I remember the 2 things you needed besides what was in the kit was Acetone and Muriatic Acid...
