well i believe my generator in my mustang finally gave me its all, or is about to anyway. i remember hearing something about a one wire hook up altenator. with the brand pwerhouse or something. if someone could let me know what the name is, and where i could get it, i would greatly appreciate it.

that or a good and easy altenator setup that i could use to replace my generator. thanks again guys for helping me when i need it.

awesome, thanks. now should i go with three wire or one wire. and what type of powermaster altenator have any of you have?

and for comparison, how many amps did my stock generator put out? if anyone knows....

8) a one wire is the easiest to install as you have to make a couple of wiring changes to use the three wire. the stock generator put out a whopping 38 amps(peak). unless you are going to use late model efi, a bunch of driving lights, a monster stereo, etc. etc. use a 95 amp alternator. i dont know if they have one that is one wire, but you can get a one wire conversion kit for it from auto krafters, npd, virginia classic mustang, and autozone. if you cant find, or dont want a one wire conversion, go to www.mustangsteve.com he has a gen to alt conversion wiring diagram that is easy to follow. right now i still have the stock gen, but i plan to use a 95 amp alt when i am ready to convert. my mustang will get a 140 amp one wire alt when it gets on the road.

Save money and keep your dummy light working. Just go to the local auto parts store and buy a three wire alternator. (see below for details and model number)

By the way:
If you were to install a gm alt. you have to power it up off the ACCESSORY side of the ignition switch, if you power it up off the IGNITION side of ignition switch, power generated by the alt. backfeeds to the ignition and when you turn off ignition switch the engine will keep running.

This is why they sell plugs for alt. conversions. These are only necessary if your stock ignition switch dosen't have an ACCY. position. The DA plug is a $2.00 GM alt plug with a $2.00 radio shack zenor diode solderd into the exciter wire and they sell them to guys who don't know any better for $19.95. The diode just stops voltage from backfeeding the ignition system.

check your front timing cover for a bolt boss. otherwise you gotta to weld a tab on the stock alt bracket for a 200 like I did on mine. I used a harness from a falcon to wire mine up but am going one wire soon.

well i'm sold. thanks LaGrasta. i appreciate it. this will be much much cheaper than the powermaster alt from summit. now i can also buy the volt meter, oil pressure, and water temp gauge with what i'll save. good deal. i was wondering how it would all work exaclty with the one wire set up. i just had no clue of how to set up a 3 wire alt system without much electrical experience at all. but this looks like the kit that will take car of that problem. i appreciate. i'll let you all know how it turns out. hope this kit doesnt take long to get here. i want to play!!
