I found a good local shop to rebuild the head. http://www.cylinderhead.com. I have seen several posts on head rebuilds and what needs done for added performance. I am looking for added performance, but still want to be able to run 93 octane. What do I need to make sure I have the shop do when rebuilding the head?

Thanks

Three angle valve job, pocket port intake and exhaust, port and polish the exhaust ports. Keep the CR down to around 9:1 to use midgrade fuel.

Howdy Cal 1780:

In addition to the suggestions above you will need to mill the head mating surface or gasket surface for several reason. Milling will re-establish a perfectly flat mating surface for the best seal, and milling will help to raise your CR/Compression Ratio. Please read the sticky post at the top of this forum for the variables you will need to consider in deciding how much to mill. You didn't say which head you're using so I can't estimate for you.

You might also consider;
*Adding 1.75" intake valves if it is a pre-'75 head, and you're adding hardened seat inserts.
*back cutting, or adding a 4th angle to the port side of the intake valves
*I would certainly add an exhaust port divider to the 3/4 siamized exhaust ports while the head is dis-assembled, whether you plan to use headers down the road or not.
*If it is a '69 or earlier head, I'd have to carb hole bored out to 1.75"
*If this is a '66 head the only reason for using it over a much improved later head (D8XX or later) would be for maintaining orginality.

Good luck with your project.

Adios, David

Hi

I'll direct you to one more sticky post. Go to the "Hardcore Inline Tech" section and read the second sticky post "What a Three-angle Valve Job is". It will also explain about backcutting the valve.

Good Luck
