Well, we just got an XF wagon, metallic gold, 4.1, floor shift auto in pretty good boxy condition apart from a broken tail light and rear bumper and with rego for $400. It has a very tired motor that rattles and smokes, but has done almost 1500 kms since we got it.
A new motor and a manual conversion are on the agenda and so some questions are in order.
Do the unleaded motors have a lower compression ratio, or did they make up for lower octane with timing? We have been running an XE motor on unleaded for quite a while now but we are running a few degrees retarded ( about 4 I think) and it runs better on premium.
Can I just get a pre unleaded motor and stick the unleaded head and the cat onto it?
How will a manual pull a 2.77:1 diff ratio?
Will I need a different console to fit the manual shifter boot, or is it the same as the auto one?
