Got my MSD 6 BTM today...

Installed it and went for a run and I can get into the gas now! The car is working pretty good. I have some things to sort out...

I have a question about boost referencing the fuel pump, does the fact that is now sees vacuum as well as boost detrimental in any way? I have a problem where the car wants to stall when pulling away from a stop... sometimes. I give it a couple of shots and I'm good to go...

It's referenced off of the compressor outlet, wouldn't there be vacuum while turbo wasn't spooled?

I think I may have damaged the accel pump plunger last time I had the carb apart. The choke linkage makes it difficult to reassemble the carb. I have since removed all of the choke parts, as per you Tommy, so getting it apart and back together should be easier now.

It works great though... It's like I dropped in a v8. I'm going to have to upgrade my brakes now.

theres no vacuum there, so you should be good. One of these days Ill get around to those brakes... I guess I did in a way swapping over to the v8 stuff. Good luck finding that take off gremlin though.

Found it.

The float hinge retainer spring was off on one side, so the hinge was likely lifting on one side. Found it this am and my stalling issues are rectified.

The fuel pressure regulator should be the one that's "boost referenced", not the fuel pump.
Wait a minute, are you referencing a mech. fuel pump or electric?

I believe he is running a stock mechanical pump, with no regulator.... I could be wrong though.

Tommy's right. Stock fuel pump, no regulator. This "should" be okay for about 8 lbs boost?

Kirk

PS. I was looking hard at using a inline fuel injection pump out of a 1987 Ford Ranger and put a regulator between that and the carb.

Do yourself a HUGE favor, screw the stock mechanical pump and go with somethin better, preferably an elec pump and boost referenced fuel pressure regulator. I blew head gasket after headgasket and the car sat and sat (hence why im never on here anymore) so i finally bit the bullet and built a better fuel setup and wish I had never cut corners in the first place. Once the head comes back Ill be back on the road and only a tune away from hittin the track

yep, get a waleboro GLS 3932 high preassure fuel pump, can pump 45 gph @ 45 PSI ( more than enough, your going to regulate anyway so... ) an aeromotive 13301 regulator, and a block off plate for your stock pump. run a return line from the reg to the tank. I did mine by welding on a black iron 1/2"- 3/8" pipe adaptor to the filler tube, then drilling the hole in a press. ended up, the fitting wouldn't fit thru the 1/4 panal, so I cut the filler tube in 1/2 and peiced it back togther with hose.

I'm going to have to bite the bullet. I hooked up a boost gauge tonight and I'm seeing 12lbs at the hat. If I floor it, it pings. I also seem to be having some heat soak issues... If I let the car sit for a short while and jump back in it surges when I get on the gas. I might have to fab up a heat shield similar to the one one Kirk's Bronco.

Worth every penny. I took some friends out and they couldn't believe the difference.

Also, on the heat issue (and I still have them), if you can fit a 1" phenolic spacer under the carb that will help. I need to, but I do not have the hood clearence and I do not like hood scoops. So help it by also using header wrap on the j-pipe and down pipe and maybe a turbine heat shield of some sort.
