Has any one ever swaped a 223 cid in place of 215 cid?

I'm in the process of building a Hopped Up 223cid for my '53 Ford Mainline coupe. The car currently has a 215cid in it. I thought the 223 cid had mounting holes for front mount or close to center mount, but now from getting schooled on this web site I think I am wrong. So my question is how / where do I install the new mounts easiest & quickest way possible because I'm tring to make it to The Kontinentals Lonestar Round Up car show in the beging of April. :?: Please Help.
Thank You,
Dustin

Sorry I can't help out, but I'm interested in finding out the difference between mounting now also. When I bought my '54 F100 somebody had swapped out the original 239 y-block and swapped in what I was told was a 223. However my 223 has a single motor mount that bolts onto the front of the motor. It's sort of horse shoe shaped, two bolts from each side of the motor go into the bracket then where it bolts to the frame it has a single motor mount. The motor is kept from rocking side to side by the use of transmission bellhousing mounts.

Now I just read your other post and they say that the 215 has front mounts and the 223 has 'mid' mounts. I had better double check what motor was swapped into the '54. Also FWIW the PO just welded in a chunk of 3/8" flat steel between the frame rails and radiator support to attach the front motor mount. It is extremely stable but sort of 'fugly'. I wonder if there is any chance of finding pics on the internet showing 223 and 215 installed?

I to would like to see pic.'s of 215's & 223's mounted in the vehicle. This would help to figure out how I would fabricate some mounts. Also to whom ever reads this post, do 223's have 2 mounting spots for either front or center :?:

My 223 (1958 F-100) has two mounting points. On each side of the block (midway) there are triangular (3 bolt) shaped attachment points. On the front cover, there are vertical (2 bolt) attachment points on either side. My truck engine is mounted similar to CoupeBoy's except there are 2 mounts on my crossmember. From photos, it looks like the mid mount points may not exist on the 215. The distributor and oil filter are further back on the 215, about where the mid-mounting points are on the 223. Check the following link, it may help:

see location of motor mounts look like there not towards the front to me http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/6015 ... g_0904.jpg
Do you see the side motor mount in that picture. Mine is not like that at all. In order to see the mount on my '54 you would have to take a picture looking directly down the front of the motor. My motor mount used the 2 bolt holes in the block directly behind the timing cover.

Nice looking car.

So I wonder if the way it is mounted now in the car if its the same as a 223 or not to far off that it could be fixed with some minor welding. Come on fellow inliners lets see some pic's of 223 mounted in the vehicle :?

The oil pan on my 223 doesn't look like the oil pans on either one of the the engines on the geocities site. :?:

What sucks is that 80 miles West of here at Dad's house there is a '57 Fairlane, '59 Galaxie, and '54 F100 all with 223's installed but I have no pictures of them and I had planned on going there this weekend but with low temps expected of -22°f and -28°f and highs between -7° and -10°f I cancelled my trip there this weekend. Maybe next month..I'm not going to risk dying of hypothermia, that's not my idea of a good time.

And I thought it was cold here @ a steady 43 degrees.

Hey rat_trap, I have several pictures of 215 & 223 bare blocks on hand. I don't post them on my website as I've copied them from various locations & I don't want to get into copyright issues. However, I do keep them on hand for reference. Looking at the various blocks, I think that the 223/262 may have the 215 mounts, but not vice versa. If you'd like, I can send you a few of the pics & that might help you out. Send me a PM. Unfortunately I don't have any of these engines on hand, so I can't measure for you.

The 223 in my '62 truck came from a '59 passenger car. My truck uses the single front mount, while the car used the dual side mounts. The block was tapped for both styles of mount, so the front mount bolted right up.

Here's a pic:

I'll try to get some better photos, but the passenger car mounting points are directly below the centre of the exhaust manifold. You can only see two of the three holes, but they form an inverted triangle. At any rate, the 223 passenger car mounts appear to be farther back than your 215 mounts.

The truck mounts are right at the front of the block. There are two holes per side, aligned vertically.

Not sure if this helps, but I found a 223 listed in the classifieds on the HAMB, with pics. The passenger side motor mount is still attached:

And another with a good side shot: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/show ... p?t=237331

Did your 223 come with any motor mounts at all?

they change the frame in 1954 and went to a front sump pan(moved dist& oilpump) I think this will be harder to over come then motor mounts when I put a 300 in a 57 ranchero and had to make a pan I have not seen a 6 in a 53 do not know anything about there mounts
