Hi,

Can anyone tell me what size sockets I will need to put a cylinder head on a 200? I am borrowing some tools and need to ask for what I need and am at work now.

Thanks

Practically anything (and everything) can be done on a 200 with 5 basic sockets: 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 5/8 and 11/16. That's what I love about my old cars/trucks. Specifically for the head, I believe the 1st four will do it. The 11/16 is optional, if I remember correctly and a 5/16 and 3/8 comes in handy for hose clamps. A short and long extension bar also come in handy. I prefer deep sockets but I you may need short ones here and there, depending on your rocker set up. I would also recommend 3 combination wrenches (1/2, 9/16, 5/8), a pair of med. vise grips and both flat head and phillips screwdrivers. You'll also need something to scrape gasket surfaces. You'll need a torque wrench when you put it back on. I recommend removing head bolts in the reverse order of torque sequence. I know it sounds like a lot but nothing's more frustrating than getting to a critical point and not having the right tool. The good thing is that with these basic tools you can do practically ANYTHING! My problem is I start out doing the head and wind up doing this, and that, and this, and the other and ..........

Don't forget about a 13/16 spark plug socket. You can use it on both plugs, and the crankshaft bolt. Get a wrench and socket for all sizes mentioned.

But if you change the plugs, and plan on turning the engine over to work with timing, you're gonna need that 13/16. =)

Or if you want to put the head down on a flat surface, it would rest on the plugs if you didn't remove them.
