Are these used in the US? Only found out about them last week, when a head came back fitted with one. I am talking about a small disc siliconed to the rear welsh plug in the head, that deforms or detaches if overheated. Seems like a good way to keep the customers honest.

People are amazing about what they will try to pull.
Heat tabs are used by most rebuilders.
And most rebuilders mark head, block and crack with steel stamps using invoice or tracking number when receiving.

Quincy has had shysters bring engines in claiming that it had been rebuilt by his shop. The engines marked in the wrong places and/or marked with the wrong size steel stamps. That when things get loud.

These fellows seem to have done such a sterling job, I would have been happy for them to do scrimshaw depicting their shop, on the chrome plated valve cover. Not sure if I should paint the tab, so masked it off.

They used a simple ID formula - the date. :roll:
