Alright, I've got a 1965 Mustang but I'm thinkin' that it doesn't have the original 200 six in it, but I can't find any place to decode the id number on the block. I'm pretty sure the id is EF3 083 362C (it looks like there could be a 1 between the EF3 and the 083). The reason I think it's not the same engine is because the number on the exhaust manifold (C8DE-9480-A) for the most part says it's a 68 falcon engine (I don't know what the 9480 is). Thanks for any info you can find for me.

9480 is the code for the exhast manifold, 6015 is for the block, and on Aussie 2V's, they have a 9425 for a detachable intake manifold...which no US American Mustang has.

Look for the code on the block which has C8DE-6015-AA on it, or similar. As you've noted, DE is for the Falcon in Fords international car class system.

if it says E1, then it's an 81 block. 68 exhaust manifold. What about the head? Where did you get the number for the engine?

Unless you are really concerned with showing your car as concours, then the numbers not matching is not a big deal. This engine (200/250) was used from 65-86(?) and was the 170 before 65.

I got the number from the little stamped part in the front of the engine just above and to the front of the distributor. I'm not really looking for concours correct but I don't know why every spark plug wire set I get, the wire from the coil to the distributer cap is just barely long enough (there is no slack in the wire). Is that normal? I don't really have a reference engine to look at but my coil is pointed to the back of the car, if it were pointed the other way the wire would be perfect. Thanks for the info so far. :)
