Well, my '77 Maverick head had a few things wrong with it (cracks, broken studs), so i exchanged it at the yard for a '80 (E0) head. Now I have some holes in it and I dont know why they are there!!

That hole isn't threaded, I have no idea what it is for.. but it's right under the carb hole. Don't know what the studs are there for either. Here's the next one...

This one is threaded. I was thinking I could just close this one up with a threaded stopper. Any other ideas, or do I need to keep these open?

Sorry about the links, i cant figure out how to post pictures yet.. I don't have my own site. Thanks guys.

the one right by the carb mounting place is for EGR i believe, a plate can be made to block it off

the second one, no clue, but it should be able to just have a plug installed

Put a plate over the egr hole, or what i did was to tap it & put in a tapered pipe plug in the hole & then grind it flush. William

The other one is for manifold vacume, you can plug it or run a vacume accesory with it. I used mine for my power brakes and modulator.

I'm guessing i need the vaccum hole for my C4 and for my distributor.. right? Any ideas on finding a adaptor that will fit in there?

HI
You should be able to get a vacuum tree at any parts store (make sure of the opening size). Then a flat plate for the EGR cover (hole in the side of the intake).. I beleve some one on here sales them .. the Dizzy would (should) need to be pluged into the base of the carb..

I have a '79 head (cast '78). It's EGR is in roughly the same spot, but turned toward the back of the engine more.

The other one goes to the power brake booster and to the vacuum cannister on the Fairmont's front fender. It also goes thru a tee which heads down to the auto trans vacuum modulator.

The side hole is easy to plug if you have the EGR valve.

I just used a "sawzall" recip saw to cut the EGR off (result was flat plate with a hole) and by flipping it 180* (end for end) I plugged the hole with zero cost.

The front threaded hole had a fitting that connected to a tube that ran the length of the intake log (across the top of the head bolts) and ended at the vacuum tee at the firewall. WHY ON EARTH Ford felt it was necessary to do that no one knows. It would have been a lot less plumbing to tap into the rear of the log (near the vac tree) than to run tubing from the front to the back.

The guys at the parts store suggested i just tap in a freeze plug... i was a little skeptical, but after thinking about it, im guessing itll work. What do you guys think?

That works, but ONLY if the hole is machined smooth.

That head looks really grimey, when you have the machine shop clean it up and check the guides and stuff, you could have them machine the hole for a freeze plug if the hole isn't already smooth.
