Have a 62 fairlane with a 2 speed auto and the idle is extremely high (as in 4500 rpm high) and when i got into gear it almost or will die out.. When if i adjust the idle back to normal it will die as soon as i go into gear (initial drop in). it also has a bit of a power loss (i havent owned the car THAT long but my buddys chero 6 cruises alot better then this).. we were thinking an internal carb leak... could anything else cause these symptoms?

First things I would do is check that all vac lines are secure and no holes etc. Next adjust the idle down to around 650rpm and then check and adjust your timing. After doing all this I would then adjust the idle with the car in drive and see what happens.

I am sure other will have more help for you but this is where I would start.

check and check... took care of all of that first off... no wim lookin at the carb with a straight eye for the queer carb

You might want to set your carb with a vac gauge I just reset mine that I had set by ear. wow what a difference picked up three inches of vac don't forget to reset idle speed and timing I am running twelve degrees initial advance and sucking 93 octane fuel my 200 loves it 8)
