High Performance Balancer won't fit?

Hello folks,

I ran into some problems while trying to mount my brand new "High Performance Balancer" which i got from Mike. This one, to be precise:
http://www.classicinlines.com/proddetai ... D200%2DBAL

It won't fit my engine though, as it is a little wider on the outer diameter that the original one - so it hits the timing marks of my tming chain cover.

Has anyone encountered this problem before? Any ways to get around it? Help would be greatly appreciated! Especially because the old balancer broke while trying to remove it...

Thanks,
Thomas

I've never had one returned, for any reason. Therefore it has never happened, or no one has ever commented on it.

Not sure if there is a solution. However you are welcome to return it if you can't get it to fit. I stock rebuilt dampers if you need to go that route.

thanks for the reply. i'll try to get a picture tomorrow and will send it to you.
also thanks for the offer of returning it. if i need to i'm sure we can work something out!

IF yours is the same as mine the timing marker tab can be bent up and down a bit.

it's a 68 block - the timing marks are cast into the timing chain cover. so there's nothing to bend...

i'm working with mike on this one. i might have happened that i received a wrong item, maybe even packaged incorrectly by the factory...

Howdy Thomas:

The 200s came with two different dampers. '63 - '77 at 5 7/8" in diameter with a three bolt mount, and a 6 1/8" diameter, four bolt from '78 - '83.

Measure the one you took off of your '68 block. Measure the diameter of Mike's.

YOu may have to bend your timing tab, or fing a later model 200 timing tab.

Adios, David

Can you measure it, because the one I have from Mike in h/P is 5 7/8 just like its suppose to be for the years it applies to, mine also has a timing tab instead of marks in cast , but I also have not yet installed it.

ok, so i took pictures today.
it seems that i got the wrong one - the first picture shows a four bolt version.
this differs from the pictures in mike's shop. it's three bolts there. mine also doesn't have the additional timing marks, just a single mark for TDC.
the second picture shows the difference in size. it just might bei the 2/8 inch difference mentioned above.

but once again: my timing cover has the timing marks cast into it - and it is hollow from the backside in this area. so there's no way of grinding it down or bending it.

hopefully i can sort something out with mike so i can get the correct balancer!
