The Hooker SuperComp dual out 200cid headers have a slip joint to enable easier installation. Anyone have a better solution than a muffler clamp to seal the fitting.
PS I asked for help a few weeks ago concerning the round welds sealing against the rectangular head ports. I ordered a set of Hooker(Holley) gaskets for this application but the sales person cautioned it would "take a while" since they would be coming from Tijuana. Are these gaskets (hooker header 6601 gaskets part #10827HKR) a different shape than the regular rectangular port composite gskts like FSPP sells?.

You do not need to clamp the slip joint. The fspp gasket will work, but the hooker gasket ports are round to match the header ports. Russell
 
My Cliffords are made the same way, the first set I had I clamped with a muffler clamp, the current set I had the muffler shop weld them together when they were doing the exhaust system.

As stated it they are new, then the slip fit is supposed to be tight and you won't need a clamp, if you are really worried about it coat it in copper silicon.... If you do need a clamp then you can get a band style clamp and is works great

Band clamps are my favorite. I keep a stock of them in my shop but I have never been able to find them smaller than 2".
I have been thinking of finishing the mufflers of my dual out header exhaust with them. Only problem is they are heavy.
If you deal with work trucks, they can cover a world of hurt. Band clamps can fix a broken off pipe or patch a problem fast. I can no longer find them in JC WHitney but NAPA sells them for @ $10 each. No smaller than 2" i believe.
 
Another way to attach the headers to the exhaust is to have the muffler shop weld universal style flanges onto the headers and a matching set on the exhaust pipes. You don't have to worry about muffler clamps coming loose (or grooving the pipes and never coming apart), they shouldn't leak, easy to unbolt later, and a generally cleaner/ more professional look. The muffler shop shouldn't charge too much extra to fit a set, if you're having a new set of pipes installed anyways.
 
I have had the Hooker headers on mine for awhile with no problems. They just slip in and out. I was not to sure of the design either when they arrived at my house, but it has worked so far..I can't complain 8)

Hmmmm, you know now that I think about it I have only seen them smaller than 2" once and that was at a local racers shop I will stop by there and see if he can tell me where he got them.

Hello, does anyone have any idea if the Hooker 6601 headers might fit my 1981 Granada with 200ci six. The Granada engine bay is rather generous, as a SB 255ci V-8 was also an engine option. The "hold-up" seems to be the "low" mount starter on my "big bell" 1981. Help!!!
