i can't seem to get my horn to operate correctly..65 mustang? i can take a wire and touch it to the horn and the battery and it honks just fine, but can't find why i can't get it to honk when i push the horn on the steering wheel!!! what else can i check?? is there any inline fuses anywhere?? i changed the one in the fuse box under the dash.. still nothing..thanks

HI
You might check the horn relay its a small box up front might be next to the voltage regulator. You might check that you got power at the relay when you push the button.

the connection post in the steering column is burned out...

its the same harness that does turn signals....theere are little posts that make connections to the brass ring. Time to take steering wheel off

is it aftermarket of original?

auto parts store will grant steering wheel kit and a mustang parts place for the turn signal harness

you should hope its the steeriing wheel lkit...much cheaper

I bypassed the horn on the wheel and installed a toggel switch. I can drive with the horn ON coonstant...very handy in Miami

Just put on, it's an after market steering wheel gt style, just connected it all and pieced together horn stuff by directions...original one didn't work before i took it off either though!!! so maybe the relay next to the regulator, didn't know where else to look, i'll check and make sure i'm getting power there, thanks!! i changed the fuses and it didn't help..so it's somewhere between the button and horn!

that's a good one!!! :) but the police officer says i can't get it approved during inspection for registration unless i have a workable one!!! Have to get it working! or run a toggle button!! either way!

I had the same problem. I dobut it's the relay b/c it should not work at all without the relay, wire or button. First thing to check is pull the horn button off and check to see you have the ground wire plugged into the button properly. If that doesnt' work, pull the wheel off and check the brass contact plate for any gouges on the backside due to the horn button spring assembly popping out. (lightly scuff the plate if it does)

yeah...thats those posts...be careful..they are KNOWN to cause fires and problems.

I once leaned on my horn for no more that 1-09 sec...and smoke started coming up. The wores got hot. Thats why I by passed

its a pain to honk now...but it makes me less road-rage-ie
