How different is the 300 vs. 170/200 for mounting compressor

I am getting ready to purchase my A/C system. I'm leaning toward the Hot Rod Air system (evap looks most like orginal, and had good success with them the first time).

Anywho, the use new Sanden compressors, but they don't make a mounting bracket for the 170/200. He DOES however make an adaptor that will mount the new Sanden to an original York compressor bracket. There is a York bracket available now that was on a 300. Would it work? Will that same bracket mount to the 170/200? Where on the block does it mount (with powersteering as well)?

thanks AGAIN!

 guess I should have seen that!

Thanks for pointing it out! They want $91 for that bracket (not the york adapter one, the regular mount one).

How and where did the original compressors mount? The bracket from Vintage mounts low on the passenger side with the alternator mounted above it (same bracket). I thought that I've seen the original York compressor mounted high on the driver's side....no?

I think I'd rather mount it down low on the passenger side, so I'll by Vintage's bracket instead of trying to use an original York compressor bracket and the adaptor.

I'd LOVE it if someone had a photo of the A/C compressor mounted!!

anyone? Buhler?

I have two heavy cast iron OEM AC brackets on the shelf for 250's that mount on the right side. The bracket accomodates the alternator directly below the AC compressor. The compressor is bolted to a flat shelf formed by the bracket. These will not fit a 200, but may be similar to the OEM 200 bracket. Here's a pic ot that bracket:

All the 200's I have seen at car shows with the original York/Tecumsah compressor have been on the right side. But most of these cars were also equipped with PS, so that pump was on the left. I suppose that if you didn't have PS, you could mount the compressor on that side.

I've had a couple of cars with the "lawn mower engine" compressors, and the Sanden is not only smaller, it is a LOT smoother. It also uses less power to drive, an important quality when hooking it to a 170. :)

THANKS!!!

I do intend to go with the Sanden compressor for the reasons you stated. I'm just trying to see if I can save a little money by getting hold of an original mount since the kit comes with the adapter tomount the Sanden to it. Otherwise, I'll have to spring for $91 to get the Sanden bracket for the 170 from Vintage Air.
