how do i tell what engine i have ???

i have a 1964 ford fairlane the engine came that year were the 170 -200 the. vin decoder that i found on line sucks no eng info on it. and what do i need for a c-4 tranny swap i have 2 speed tranny now . any help thrown my way would be great

Can you look for some part numbers?

Start with the head - it's easiest to find. There will be a part number on top of the intake, starting with C, or D, or E and ending in 6049. Note the whole code.

Then look for similar sized letters and numbers on the block, with "6015" near the end. Note that also.

Next, get under the exhaust manifold and look for freeze plugs of about 1¼" diameter - can you see three - or more?
