hey guys

Um i got a ford fairmont XF

and i want to know if i got a LSD or just a standard xf diff
people said that fairmont normaly have LSD but i just not so sure about it because my fairmont dosen't have all the fairmont feature it like a step up from XF

i had to buy a digital dash from a xf fairmont ghia because my was a anolog one but i do have the fairmont interial seats dash but the light switches and hazard like are all standard xf gear not that fairmont ghia gear

so could someone plz lend me a hand in finding out what this diff is. I really hope it a LSD as people think it got

also can't you buy new diff gears with better ratio's???

if so what size do you guys recommend for me ill be driving around with mates doing 80km and also when leaving mate house he got a dirt drive way and i want to have great ratio to drift all the way down this drive way and kick him and his commador ass.

how dose diff ratio work again i keep forgeting when mates tell me lol

ow yer im thinking about putting a 4 speed single rail or T5
that might help with what diff ratio would be better

Trust me You've got a 2.77:1 diff

All 4.1's in the XF sedans ran 2.77:1 diffs unless the buyer did some extreme bargining with Ford.

Why?
3-speed auto, 4-speed, no difference. In the XE, it was a different story, where all EFI's got 2.92:1 diffs in the Falcon and Fairmont, but 2.77:1 in the Fairlane. Some got 2.53's or even 2.78:1 diffs.

On earlier leaf sprung Fords, the ratio is on the tag which is on the exhast side of the diff plate when looking from the rear number plate end. It had a code on it, anmd a ratio. IIRC, the XE and XF had a colour coded drive shaft which allowed the service crew to pick which ratio was fitted. The other pick is the speedos electronic drive part number, which is related to the stock tyres, diff and engine combo.

With the XF, there were other options, but almost no-one optioned up anything else. The optional slippery diff was the same ratio.

The odd 3.3 ute, 5-speed 3.3 sedan came out with 3.23:1 diffs. There were a few 2.92:1 diffs on 3.3 4-speeds and 3-speeds. Some utes could have any thing from 2.77, 2.92, 3.23, or even 3.5. But you don't got a ute!

i don't know sh!t about diff really but is it LSD??? thast what matter to me for now i can get a new ratio for the diff off a mate anyhow

Jack it under the diff, h/brake off. turn one wheel by hand, if the opposite wheel spins the same way its a limo. (or a CIG locker).
