What type (build) of 289?

That's a mild cam and the ram air benefit is possibly debatable on the tricarb setup.

Stock 289 2V, yes
Stock 289 4V non HiPo, will be a good race
Stock 289 HiPo, you'll get a nice vew of rear of his car...

Now, if any of them have a hotter cam and a better carb (or in some cases, just a better carb) it'll be a lot tougher.

With that set up, you'll put around 120 RWHP.

Port the head, especially in the area under the valve seats and the exhaust ports. You need to pick up as much airflow as possible to match the capability of the new intake and exhaust. Without doing that, the gains are not that great.

Howdy Curtis and All:

If you're really serious abut being a "Bent 8 Beater" consider adding performance damper from Azcoupe, a complete engine balance and probably more cam duration and cam lift, and use 1.5 rockers, depending on which head you use and its flow capibility. Moving up in the rpm range will allow you to more fully utilize the cfm capicity of tri carb setup. What is your CR goal? I'd go with small dished pistons and zero deck height

Getting the "Package" well tuned to maximize results will take some work. That, and a T5 with at least a 3.5:1 rear gear, in a light, say under 3,000 lbs, vehicle with enough traction to hook up and you will be the terror of the tarmac. Easily said. Not so easy to accomplish!

My guess for RWHP would be a little higher than Slades. Probably in the 150 range, which translates to the 180 range at the flywheel. But note that "Horsepower" is more of an advertising ploy than a real world, helpful measuring standard. It is unlikely that any two dynos will measure the same engine to the same levels on the same day. It is better to think of HP and dynos as tuning tools with which to be able to do before and after comparisons to measure improvements.

Engine power is only part of the equation necessary to be a Blvd bully. You also have to get it to the ground and do it well. Most bent eights on the street are in such a bad state of tune, beating them is a hollow victory. Remember,"in a labor of love, everyday is a payday".

Enjoy the journey.

Adios, David

The only reason my estimate is the way it is is from comparisons with my Offy and my Aussie and using other's Aussie RWHP numbers and assuming like a 9:1 CR.

I would say up to 140RWHP, but doubt much more then that.
