How do i fit electronic ignition (MSD, HEI etc) to a 250 2V? What is needed and what sort of price range am i looking at?

Is there any gain from running 6 coil packs?

I think you probably need a modded XF distributor, something like Wolf 2D, and three Commodore coilpacks (waste spark theory). Unless you run coil-on-plug, which may fit.

Biggest benefit over XE electronic ignition I can see, is that you're one step closer to EFI.

I have seen a 250 2V fitted with a modified/rebuilt XE electronic dizzy and an older model msd system. don't know the exact details of the coversion but the guy that owned it reckoned it was really easy and worked like a charm

Thing about the MSD, is I'm told (by people who should know) installations like that are a redundancy. There are Toranas in the 9s with a recurved Bosch distributor and nothing more than a fancy coil like an Accel or Mallory Pro-Master. For "warm" street use, word is even the OEM coil is totally OK. Especially if mounted off the block.

I also can't see the benefit in going from standard points to regular electronic when he's been mentioning EFI and turbo. A CAS would be a good install and the start of major engine tweaking options.

The electronic conversion is not too hard - you just post away an XE dizzy and they mod it for you, then mail back. I've got one in a box for my 221; think it cost $275 including the "core" unit.

Hey Addo.
Ive got a XE dizzy but its got a little movement in the shaft and bushes.
Wheres this place you used if you dont mide me asking?
Ive got a 250 2V and a hydro crow and need to get it redone.
Thanks Steve

i just got given a XE electronic dizzy! whats needed to fit it and where do i have to send the dizzy to get it modded to fir to the 2V? is there a module that should be with the dizzy? if so i dont have that and what do i have to use to replace it?

Module is inside the XE dissy, under the littel tin plate. It is easy to dit, just bolt it in and run the two wires to the coil. The original harness has a wire ( pink I think) for a tacho drive but I just taped it up. You should use a coil for an electronig dissy too, as the old one will burn out before too long powering in electronic dissy. Also carry a spare module with you ( about $50) as it is literally 2 minutes to replace with a screwdriver and is the cause of 95% of all trouble with these systems, not that they give much trouble, but a 20 year old module might fail. Also the dielectric grease under the module can dry up on an old one giving a dead ignition. Try cleaning it and smearing a little more dielectric or heatsink grease on it before fiting a new module. You can get away without greasing it to get home, but always grease it before long.
