How to get lpg gas tank out ? And other questions

I just bought an 86 xf four speed on LPG for $100 as it was in a ram raid. Drove it home on LPG and it went OK.

Ive been taking it apart but unsure of where to go next with getting the tank out without releasing gas (1/4 tank). The gear is all sprint gas with a buget looking plate above the weber carb and a grid under the butterflys which has some sort of power input.

Theres a nice mega gas aust. complex converter made by zavoli, italy.

Does anyone know what hp one of these can flow: mod ge 120, w.p:0.6bar, mas pressure 45bar???? If that means anything?

ive removed a few lpg setups myself and all either had a valve on the tank or a tap to turn the gas off before unhooking the line then a small amount of gas gets released that was in the line just dont smoke while doing it :)

most should have electronic cutoff valves so aslong as the ignition is off the tank wont let any gas out :

cheers

I have been slowly undoing the main line from the tank thinking it has a valve but it keeps leaking out and i tighten again....maybe im not going far enough???? I dont want it to come off andf not be able to thread it back on. Its a sprint gas system with gauge and what looks like a black solinoid.

Might have another go.

yeah undo it slowly stand back for around 1-2 mins it will release all the lpg from the gas line to the converter so theres a bit of gas there

Thanks addo. As soon as i read that i went out and tried it, bingo.

Its an 80L tank and was last tested 11/94. They have to be tested every 10 years dont they? What happens if they expire?

Pete

You can get them retested - once I think - and the validation lasts five years or three (not sure). Then it's history.

Glad you fixed the "leak".

It had the number for the palce so i rang them.

10 years it is.

190 for another 10years, but then i went to say it was a sprint gas and he said prob about $300 depending if its mulitvalve or if the valves need changing. I can proberly get a whole gas setup for less than that with a few years on it.

$1300 for duel fuel (and that using all my gear) or $1800 for impco straight gas. Seems expensive. I'll shop around.

Pete

Dual fuel is such a compromise. Avoid it, if you can.

Shop around for pricing on gear, but remember the old saying "If you want something good, for nothing - you're likely to get something, good for nothing".

Cheers!
