You should have seen the look on the kid driving the Focus SRT-4! Especially with my I6 emblems!! That was fun...do it again! Now I gotta get that little bit more out of her.

My motor is running REALLY nicely right now. Pretty quick off the line even with the old Ford-O, and serious power if you jump on it at about 30MPH! I just added the Monte Carlo bar, new tie rod ends, and centerlink, so my steering is super solid now....now I can really play! Steering was REALLY lose before, so I was scared to open it up at all.

Anywho, what's the best route to squeezing a few more ponies out of her (noting the motor build up in my sig, stuck with the stock Ford-O tranny for now, and 3.5 rear).

Do I diddle with timing (I'm putting in different springs in the DSII this weekend)?
Do I mess with the Holley (jetting, pump, etc.)? Details...

Do I try different plugs (and suggestions for them)?

Should I make a go at ram-air like Geezer (what kind of gains could I expect)?

Just looking for some ideas...doable, reasonable ideas of course! Cheap never hurts either!

for more juice I say, timing and ignition. The secret is in your distributor.

what plugs you have now?

I say...make flames shoot out tailpipe...
that will scare em...

how about some traction bars...did you have wheel hop?

and ram air is a good idea....

Electric fan would be an easy way to squeeze out a couple more HP. I think you should consider a mustangaroo style supercharger and a T5. Then you can eat rice for breakfast, lunch and dinner! LOL

I am running Bosch Platinums now. No, I didn't have any wheel hop

I do have an electric fan. Supercharger is not in my realm of "do-able" but Ram Air may be.

I've got the MSD and DSII setup. Would you suggest anything more besides tuning?

Bryce, after all your questions its about time you ate rice. Congradulations . I don't know if any more can be gotten from you combination?? Maybe distributor tuning & carb jetting. Remember these holleys are rich out of the box. Don't be afraid to try the leaner side of the street. Great William

thanks WIlliam. I was thinking she probably could go a bit leaner. Do you know off hand what jet size i should try (and what stock is in this 2300 500CFM)?

Bryce, the stock jet size is 73. I would try a 71 jet. if you have a lean cruising surge go to 72's. If the 71's seem ok, but lack resposne on acceration go to a 6.5 power valve in place of the 5.0 valve.
Last but not least is the accerator pump cam. You can try the orange cam in the #2 position. this cam if used with the 30 cc accerator pump. If you use it adjust the lever to provide the correct shot of fuel-making sure the correct setting of the accerator pump lever.
These 500 cfm carbs come with a 50cc shot of fuel. These carbs were designed for larger engines which require a larger pump shot. Don't be afraid to try the smaller orange cam in the # 2 position as a try. the holley is a very adjustable carburetor. If you go too lean it will have a hesitation.
The holley carburetor when perfectified to your engine will be as responsive as fuel injection. maybe more power, but you can't beat modern electronics for fuel miliage. Good luck William

Thanks for the great info William! What time will you be here Saturday? Beers and Pizza on me!

Carb tuning is something I've never been very good at. Would it behoove me to take it to the dyno shop down the road and let them do it right?

nice use of the english vocabulary....

:)

sometimes I think fine tunning is best done by"those" people...

You already have an electric fan but what about an electric fuel pump? I have one and like it just fine. I have an electric fan on order and hopefully will install that this weekend.

Electric fuel pump is a definite possibility. Is that a noticeable gain item or just a theoretical gain since it's not loading on the cam? What pump did you go with? Did you put a regulator inline and what block off plate did you use on the block?

You know what I really need? A familiar foot. I need someone that knows what a strong 6 cylinder should feel like. Maybe I've gotten all I can out of it (within reason) and I just don't know it. Probably not, but I'd love to get someone in it that could say "Man, this thing could go a lot stronger" or "dude, how did you get a 6 to perform like that?"

Chaz, your local. When are you coming up to my neck of the penninsula? Crabby Jacks on Sunday night should be rocking after a bad Turkey Rod Run and nice cool weather! Come on up! Who else is in our area that fits my "familiar foot" profile?

I'll have to check with the Dyno shop and see what they want to tune the DSII and carb and run my numbers.

hmmm..

right now I have my carpet flipped over my seats installing a new shifter boot...

let me se eif I can quik do some throwing together and maybe cruise up

Cool. Tiddy things up and get up here. Let me know if you are coming.

Hi guys-Reincarnation quoted me $60 plus return shipping to recurve my DS II-I'll be sending it soon! The local places wanted $160!

I went with a Holley. There is a red and blue model. One model comes with a regulator which is the one I got and I believe it's the blue one. If your interested I can get specific's when I get home. I opted for the one with a regulator because the price dif wasn't that much. The only problem I've had is originally the pump was cutting off due to the pressure set to low. I would let it sit for a minute and it would come right back. I was running 4.5 or so. My carb (Holley 2300 500cfm 2bl) calls for 5 - 7 so I jacked it up to 6 and that solved the issues no more cut outs.

It's hard to say how many ponies that would be worth but I would think a couple at least. Also it's nice when your tunning to be able to just turn the key on and fill the float bowl if you had been doing any carb work. They are noisy but once my engine is running I don't here at all. I have dual exhaust with flowmasters. I know some people complain about the noise of the electric pumps but if your going to have a noisy exhaust who cares.
