Hello all you knowlegable inliners...
I am preparing to have my 200 rebuilt. I pulled the engine already and I'm prepared to deliver it now. I know what I want in terms of performance, but I'm not sure what that translates to in terms of the specifics. I'm hoping if I list what I have and what I want, y'all can steer me in the right direction.
The car is a 65 mustang. I've had it for 16 years and it had a freshly rebuilt engine when I bought it. I decided it was due for a rebuild this year when it started running rough and I realized I had put nearly 80,000 on it over all these years. When I got the engine out, I looked for the first time at the casting numbers on the motor and the C4, and it turns out to be a 1968 motor and tranny, apparently from a Fairlane.
As for performance, it would be nice to warm it up, but not too much. I would like it to be stage 2 with headers, slightly hotter cam, better carb (has autolite 1101 right now), better internals for durability, etc. Budget isn't a big deal, I'm not concerned about cost, just reliability and good all around performance. It will be a summertime daily driver for my wife.
Is there a recommendation here for the cam, carb, headers, etc. that would make up a rebuild to meet these specs? Is this something a good machine shop should already know?
Incidently, I live in the Portland Oregon metro area. If anyone here knows a reputable shop in this area, I'd really appreciate a recommendation. I've asked my regular mechanic, and he gave me a list of shops to stay away from :!:
