i am currently running that crappy old A/C compressor that runs off of 12 or whatever number it is freon, and i am wondering what is the best new compressor that is smaller and efficient that runs on 134? if anyone has any info, let me know

Sanden 508 IIRC.... they make all kinds of versions of the 508 for different manufactures which have different mounting positions and connections.

If you have a good underdash unit, and want everything else new, call one of the hot rod A/C shops. Every hot/street rod magazine has dozens of ads for the top companies. They are usually very reasonably priced and know how to modify old systems to work well.
When I upgraded everything on the Squire, it was about 600 bucks. New superflow condenser, sanden compressor, 134 hose kit, drier, triple safety switch, and a 134 compatible expansion valve. I did have to buy a few adapter fitting to hook up to the underdash unit. I made a sanden compressor to york mount adapter plate myself, but they are available as well.
A new sanden unit by itself runs around 200 US dollars.

Hey Custo, If your R-12 compressor is still working, try putting some Freeze 12 in it. This stuff is great! It mixes with whatever oil you are running in your unit and replaces R-12 freon. The reason I am so hiped about this is I was going to convert my Mavericks A/C to 134, after reserching on the internet and reading some A/C forums I heard about all the people who spent hundreds of dollars on A/C parts to upgrade their systems for 134 and either blowing up their compressors or just getting poor service from it, I stumbled upon this product, and luckily their was a shop here in Jonesboro that uses it. The owner said after two years of doing retro fits with it he never had a complaint. It seems that the hotter the temp is outside the colder it gets. I LOVE it..........no hoses or seals to change. All I did was blow my lines out, change my dryer since it sat so long uncharged, put 8oz. of ester oil in and 2 cans of Freeze 12......and now I'm chillin. I think Carqwest sells it also.
