Hi, i looking @ buying a kit for 250 Xflow to accept I6 T5's (EA-EL) and wondering on a few bits of into on the T5 if possible.

1st.. length of gearbox (not including the bellhousing as it uses the XF T5 bellhousing)
2nd.. length between gearbox and shifter (to see where the shifter would come up in my car) (1977 TE Cortina)
3rd.. a good photo of a T5.
4th.. if possible width of T5 also (evne tho theyre should be heaps of tunnel room as the BW35's are pretty wide n bulky)

the kit im buying comes with the following..

<Quote>
3500lbs custom modified and balanced XR8 Clutch (standard is 1800lbs)
Balanced Crossflow flywheel re-drilled to suit heavy duty clutch
Factory XF falcon bellhousing to suit Crossflow six
New clutch cable, XF falcon update type with threaded adjuster instead of E clip
Clutch fork and throwout bearing. (T5 has the clutch fork exit on the passenger side away from exhaust)
Modified crossmember for TE / TF Cortina.

ok.. so whats best option ??
trim the handbrake level back ?

or make the shifter come forward and then up ?

Addo posted some information from Dellow on T5 gearboxes. BTR and Borg Warner (now Tremec) controlled the position of the shifter by having a standard backspace from the blocks bellhousing to the start of the gearbox. It was basically Toploaders 4.8" for the Falcon. With the T5, there were versions fro Commodore V8's, V6's, I6 Falcons, V8 Falcons. All had the input shaft lenght altered to control shifter position.

This means the whole input shaft varies between applications. For instance, the rallye XR6 EF Falcons used the V8 gearset and world class bearings and T5 casing with a special OHC I6 mainshaft.

With the T5, there were some alternative shifter variations, but mostly, BW standardised on one shifter, and control of shifter position was by bellhousing length.

With the Cortina, you have to use the Sierra Cosworth T5 shifter or a special aftermarket shifter bent forward. The make it work with the stock Falcon T5 bellhousing length.

thanks for the info.

did the sierra come out here in australia ?
coz i dont think i seen one.. lol
proberly aint looking tho.

did their T5 bolt up to a 4cyl ?..

Rare as Hens teeth. Autopia imported a few dozen in the late 80's as unleaded German spec used imports.

There is a 5 inch difference in lever position between any Falcon and any Cortina extension housing for the BW Single Rail.

Unless you can get the Sierra extension housing, then your stuck with using the stock lever, and bending it to fit through the hole. Lots of people did this with Diesel L28 conversiosn into Commodores where the trans was too long to put the gearstick through the stock hole.

Bending the gear lever sorts it.

and spend a small amount of money on having one sorted out. He does Tremec 5 and 6 speed conversions to auto Commodore Supercharged V6's, he's a racer, and is a great bloke for a Holden guy. He campaigned Group N EA Falcons and VN Commodores in the late 80's, did a lot of Rochester carb work, and is the persion to talk to.
