i replaced my 170 in my 64.5 mustang a few years back.I had a 200 with mating C4 rebuilt and even though I think I knew then, not sure of the year
I tried to scrape a little paint off the block and thing I come up with either D8DE or O8DE.Any help would be great.

Thanks

More than likely a 78 engine block. What is the casting code on the head? That code is located on top of the log intake behind the carb.

EO is a 1980 casting, large log very desirable, they have hardened valve seats and the largest valves that a stock small i6 came with. best thing for the head would to direct mount a 2bbl on the head.

the block is a D8, so a 78 block. also good but nothing 'special' except it has 10 less years of use...

Thanks
Great info.Would this use a different starter than what a 170 used in 1964 or 1965.the starter I have now is 3 bolt an seems to be the right one.I just have had problems and want to eliminate all possibilities.I am pretty sure the tranny was originally mated with the block
Thanks again for he responses.Very helpful

Starter should be right if you are using same bell and same dia. Ring gear
