Intermittent knocking from 144

I was wondering if anyone has experienced a slight knocking noise from their engine. It is for the most part, intermittent. It seems to come and go, but is only ever there on idle and generally when cold, but can sometimes be heard when idling at traffic lights. I have had a poke around with a screwdriver to my ear. The knock seems to be worst when placing the screwdriver against the rocker cover, over the last cylinder. It doesnt sound like a big end knock as it doesnt increase with revs etc. I was leaning towards excessive valve lash. Do these engines run hydraulic or solid lifters?

1960 to 62 144 is mechanical cam (solids) has to have a lash set to .016 on all the rockers need to be set to proper clearance and they will be heard when its idling. Latter 144 had hyd. and is zero lash
