What are the major pro's and con's of each?
The two main ones i can think of are only that, with the internal, if something breaks, you're S-O-L becasue everything is self contained all in one unit.
With the external, there is just more plumming to run, right?
Does one give any better performace than the other?
Does it even really matter which one you use if the motor is going to be pretty much a daily driver that will never see above 8psi anyway?
