What are the major pro's and con's of each?

The two main ones i can think of are only that, with the internal, if something breaks, you're S-O-L becasue everything is self contained all in one unit.
With the external, there is just more plumming to run, right?

Does one give any better performace than the other?
Does it even really matter which one you use if the motor is going to be pretty much a daily driver that will never see above 8psi anyway?

Internal W/Gs are not really "internal". The diaphram is seperate and can be replaced easily. The valve itself is just a little internal "cup" that opens with a rod that protrudes from the downpipe. I personally have never heard of one breaking. They are easier to fabricate the piping for. And they are cheaper (only one item to buy!)

External W/Gs have a higher flow potential, cost more (you have to buy the W/G and the turbo), are harder from a fabrication standpoint. They take up a bit more space overall.

Both will work just fine for your engine and at the power levels you're looking at.
