Is a demon 350cfm probably the best 2-brl upgrade?

What do you guys think? Right now i have a parts store rebuilt Autolite 1101 and am not very satisified with performance. Planning on buying a clifford adaptor and putting a demon 350 on.

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for other carbs?

Im getting a demon mainly because my friend swears by them, saying they are the best, so give me your recommendations/experiences or other ideas.

I like it, but its the only carb I've ever owned since the original one. It looks cool though! Clifford Adaptor has to be either modified a teeny bit to fit the demon carb on it. I was using a spacer which worked well but I had NO room for an air cleaner so I had the adaptor machined on the side for the throttle linkage. Now I have about 1/4" or probably less before the hood starts crunching down on the air cleaner.

someone here ran a holley 350cfm and a 500cfm and the 500cfm helped him run 4/10 of a second faster in the quarter if I remember correctly, but the 500 will give you worse gas mileage, so it comes with a price...

I too had to machine my cliffy plate for the holley carb. a piece of the thorttle linkage on one side hangs down low and I had to mill off a little for it to clear.

Why spend the extra money on a demon when the holley will do the exact same thing for cheaper? They are the basically the same inside as for tuning, unless you just like the apperence of the demon over the holley.

ps. Way to go Horns, even though I graduated an Aggie.

Well, if you think the holley and demon will give me the same type of results, which holley do you recommend?

I was thinking something more with the 350 cfm, maybe a progressive to save on gas milage, but I've heard some people were having trouble with the h/w progressive carbs.

In your case, stay with the holley 350cfm. Search some of William's (WSA11) old post and he has already done the brain work on tuning. It is really easy to work on, better than any one-barrel, in my opinion. Getting the real benefit will come when you direct mount the carb, though. Later.

How much did direct mounting your carb cost? And what exactly did you tell him when you went in and asked him to mill off the carb mounting plate?

Also, I have an E0 head with an EGR port.. can i still even do a direct mount without hitting the EGR hole?

My machinist seems to be a bit pricey on everything, I just want to get some numbers to compare with. Thanks guys.

Just tell your machinst to mill the carb mount flat about 6" wide. All in all, it was @ $75.00 just for the milling (I had some taken off the bottom of the head, too...good idea), then the carb adapters (needed 2ea to clear for the throttle linkage) were $15.00 ea. They are the carb adapter from the solex (rodchester) to holley, any auto parts house can get these for you. Then once milled, position the adapter to use one of the existing carb's threaded holes and tap in two more (fine thread perfered). Look at some the old post of WSA111. You can use jb weld to build up, or use as a filler, any low or thin areas (works best if mixed w/ iron/metal shavings), brazing works, too. You will have to see once mill is complete. Don't want any leaks! For throttle linkage, my bronco came with a throttle cable, which might be a good investment for your sake to use and making everything work right. Cables usually run @ $20 - $30, same with bracketry (again from the auto parts house). You will not regret doing this. Good luck.

Sorry forgot this one.

Yes you can, just make a block off plate for it using the existing bolt holes, and use a good sealer/gasket maker.
