I'm nearing 5,000 mile since engine rebuilt. I used mineral based Mobil 1 then. Is it ok to use fully synthetic oil this time? Any precautions?

It's a 170, c4, AT pony.

Thanks.

8) go for it. i usually tell people they can switch to synthetic oil anytime after the first 3k miles.

It's almost a year since I changed oil and spark plugs. Is it advisable to change oil filter and spark plugs too? Fan belts?

oil filter should be changed at every other oil change
spark plugs... eh... it depends, if you pull them and they look bad, then yes, you might be better off changing them
belts you should change when/if you find cracking, fraying, severe wear, etc.

slightly confused here, has it been one 5000 mile year since you rebuilt the engine, or two different things?

I logged 5000 miles in a year's time. I love travelling with it even if it means breaking down halfway through my destination. I won't list here on how many times I called the tow service. Right now, I got trouble with the alternator that won't charge. I'm bringing her tomorrow to an electrical shop since I'm one big echobrain when it comes to positives and negatives.

I have the pony for 1 year and 1 month. Sometimes I have this temptation to sell and buy a V8 but you guys keep me hanging to it! :)

the only thing i might change with what you wrote evan is that the oil filter should be changed with every oil change.

And with a full synthetic I change the OIL every other FILTER change.... God Bless the man who created Royal Purple..... but to each his own 8)

eh, i do change mine every oil change, but i read at some manufacturers site that they recommend every other
*shrug*
i thought that was the newest thing, they are making better filters, so they can last longer

I've had my '64 Comet for about three years now and I changed my oil every month. I log about 120 miles a day, five or six days a week.
I started using MaxLife by Valvoline and I've seen significant results. I was starting to see too much blow-by via my ventalation tube from the crankcase. It'll buy me some time...ZZ
