Is the new 05 Mustang being imported to Au?
When I was there last it wasn't uncommon to see Cobra convertibles here and there. It made me feel at home.

from what i understand a private importer is planning on bringing them in low volume and converting them to RHD, but i dont think it has happened yet

It's how I read it too. Unfortunately Ford Aus has been bitten too much importing US product to Oz. It just doesn't seem to sell. Friend of mine worked for Ford and they just couldn't shift the last model Mustangs they were importing.
Pity really because the new Mustang looks great.
In fact with the number of Mustangs (read '64 1/2 to '71) being exported out of the US to Oz I'm surprised there are any left over there!

still plenty of old girls here! but it is becomming popular for them to be exported back :(

As for the new mustangs, i think the critics had a bit to do with the newer mustangs Ford Oz imported not selling, picking at the little things like small plastic squeeks and rattles from interiour parts, gear shift not feeling right etc.... all little things that could be rectified and lets face it, Ford US didnt really design the mustang to be a right hook.... thats where the holden monaro here is doing well in the US, it was designed to be either left or right hand drive and was a buisness success and i think ford should jump on that designing wagon if they want the mustang to sell here.

Also the other thing about aussies, we love our 4dr muscle cars and have since the late 60's-70's..... 2dr sports cars like mustangs, trans am's, camaros, the list goes on, are great, but our family 4dr truckster is our family muscle car too.

Holden Monaro doing well here?
not even close...

they were projecting something like 35,000 sales for the year, i think it made about 18,000
it bombed, it bombed big time

i was more pointing out the designing aspect of it how it could be adapted to be LH or RH drive easier than the mustang

The Mustangs were just too expensive here. For the price of a convertible you could buy an E series Mercedes and have change from a 4 cylinder or small V6. You could buy a BMW X5.

05 Stang is being imported in small numbers into New Zealand. I've seen 3 in specialist yards and one on the road. All were GT's (Is there any other spec/version) and all were hardtops (not convertables).
They look great in the flesh (even my dad likes them which says alot as he's never liked any other ford except for the GT40 & new GT!). Really like the old new cross over - I'd love a set of factory alloys for my Falcon Ute.

We Kiwis have a specialist North Island team who do right hooker conversions for the non rhd import Fords, Chevs and Dodges. Some work is quite involved. The column shifts aren't mirrored, nor are the indicators. Many guestions remain over the partial overlap standards, and the lights have to comply with the local regs.

You you can legally have a left hand drive car, but the Kiwi and Aussies have some real funny ideas about safety of LHD cars on our two way undivided lane roads. Apparently, the LTSA wanted a permit system like Australia.

The local 4.0 and 4.6 Ford Explorer is rhd ex factory, but the F-series pick-ups tend to get converted locally.

Were the lastet Muzzies right hookers, SnailRacing?

I've got to say that the Mustang is a classic, and let the critics moan there butts off over styling ques, the bonnet, and retro styling. I love it! It's tough, blunt, the GT 4.6 has 300 hp from the factory, and has a good old 8.8" diff that you can incinrate tyres with. WHAT THE HECKS THE PROBLEM!!!!!

Oh, there is a 4.0 V6 with the Explorer's Cologne based V6, with well over 200 hp as the base model. They have done lots of cost cutting, as the IRS and quad cam and 5.4 versions are to be drip feed to some of the speciality models. Since there is nothing that gives as much free reving naturally made horsepower for the price in America, the damand will be high.

You'll bag a near-new BA Turbo six for $40K. Considering that the new Mustang would probably be north of $85K and has two less doors - why buy one?

Becasue the Mustang it has the short stroke, lightweight 4.6 and not the ballistic but quiet I6. Does the I6 at 6000 rpm sound better than the way the 2003 GT sounded at 6800 rpm? No way!

People in Aussie and NZ buy Mustangs to be looked at, heard, oggled, admired. Straight ego boosts. In America, some buy for ego, but others buy it becasue its a super sounding and economic buy even at 20 g's in its home country.

Any Falcon Turbo points better, and looks better to my eye. It is just a Falcon, however, and with the the frequency of sighting, the XR6 is just another Ford. A Mustang is a virility symbol, and a darned nice sounding car.
