Is there a "AC" version waterpump for 200 CID?

Hi,

I think I read in the Handbook that there are high flow versions of the 200 waterpump for AC applications. In my catalogs and web browsing I have never seen 2 types of waterpump for these engines. Does anyone have a part number, or a vendor who has these higher flowing AC version water pumps? Should I be looking at 77 and up 200's waterpumps? My engine is a 65.

Thanks,

Perry

The only difference is in the impeller of the pump. If it has a disc on the outside of it, it is the A/C version. The pump I bought from Advance was the A/C version, and it was the only one they had.

Don't get the later pumps, they are a bit longer and your pulleys will not line up.

I wouldn't worry about the water pump if you want more cooling capacity. A fan clutch with a clean radiator trumps any "high-flow" water pump.

It doesn't matter how fast the water moves, to a point. The idea here is heat transfer. You have to lose the heat.

Yeah, valid point there. I'm planning on replacing the radiator, hoses, and water pump as part of regular PM. Also, any real benefit to 14" puller electric fans? I plan on using the 3-core radiator. And I've been saving my pennies to add an in-dash style A/C system.

Thanks,

The puller fan flows more air across the radiator since a pusher fan bounces some air off the radiator.

The only "advantage" that I can see is for your AC operation at low driving speeds or idle.

That setup is going to be awful tight. I have the 3-row radiator, and can't even fit the stock fan in there. A flex fan just fits with 90* adapters on the trans cooler lines. A pusher fan is going to interfere with the condenser...they tend to occupy the same space.

It is a tight fit if you leave the stock fan in place. I'm only suggesting that a puller fan would help if you had
AC.

The current radiator is 2" thick and there's about 3.25 from the face of the radiator to the water pump pulley face. So... I guess whatever puller fan has to be less than 2.75 thick to be safe. Which probably rules out going 3 core.

The OEM fan blade is 4 blade, 15" dia, and I notice that it's offset to the passenger's side. (center of waterpump isn't center of the car.)

This fan from SPAL looks to be about 2" thick http://www.spalusa.com/store/main.aspx? ... m=30100385

This is the kit I'm considering installing... http://www.classicautoair.com/?q=64_66_ ... rd_AC.html

I can probably just keep the stock fan. And, I just found all the other threads that discuss this topic.

Is it possible to mount a pusher on the condensor in front of the radiator? Prolly not a ton of room between that and the hood latch...

Thanks.
