OK, so it is cooling time again and I am looking into installing something better than stock on my C8 200....

Is there an option for a High_Flow 200 I have not seen one in a long time I remember talk about something before but I have not found it yet....

Thanks

Well, sorta maybe...

The air conditioning water pump is a higher flow pump that the stocker.

The pump on the LEFT is the AC pump - easily identified by the plate covering the vanes.

Good Luck

That waterpump on the left is the one that was in my 1980 Mustang with 200 I6 with AC, and auto trans.

At least that will give you a starting point on looking up a P/N.

Even better IMO is the 8 vane cast iron impeller. It is closed in the rear so that all the water is moved off the impeller and not out the rear of the pump, making in more efficient, I think.

Flowcooler has a mod for V8 Pumps that would probably be effective on our engines as well. They attach a stainless plate to the impeller using stainless rivets. By doing that they claim to get much greater efficiency out of the stamped steel impellers.

That sounds great Jack....

Can you point me in the direction of finding one?
And do I have to install the impeller or can that be found as a complete unit?

I am looking into the AC pump until I hear back....

I don't think there's anywhere to juts buy an impeller. I'm sure someone makes them but I don't know where to look. What I do is just go thru all the rebuilds until I find what I need.

But modifying one shouldn't be too hard. Look at this picture. There's a disc atop the impeller. Something like this used to be sold as a kit to upgrade chevy and ford pumps. It should be easy to duplicate.

Summit Racing sells the Flow Kooler plates for the V8 pumps. I know people who have used them on V8's and they say you need to use two gaskets on the pump.

lifted form another post:

Is there an aluminum version for our cars????? Is it better than the cast iron one????? If so where can I get one?????

I got mine from Kragen and asked for one off of a 67 200 w/ ac. Napa didn't have this one. Just the cast iron ones.

just give me the messering from the plate ore a nice dxf file ! , i will cut them with laser !
your choice alu ? rvs ? how thick ? i can even cut gasket,s set if you like , i just into it to order the paper for the gasket in bigg size ! also got 2 m/m rubber for cutting gaskets out !!!
so a nice setup would be cutting the plate out of 1.5 m/m rvs [ stainles steel ] and cutting a rubber gasket out of the 2 m/m rubber i got here !!

nice idee i gone try this !! got some where an old water pump and i now for sure a old gasket !!

The late model 250 appears to have a beefier pump with a larger outlet neck.

True, but the 250 pump won't work on the 144 - 200 as it is a 4 bolt design vs 3. :( I have several of the cast iron version pumps that Jack mentioned, all that would be necessary is to find a good rebuilder! 8)

rebuilder ???
just give me a couple days , [ i cant find my spare for playing and messering with  ]
gone make a new impeller for this 1 in stainles steel , wil find some thing ore figering some thing out for how to fit !
i like new idee,s . easy for me to say , i can laser and water cut , just a nice dxf draw and i can cut it out !!! and ofcourse bent it like you want , ever got angry because you cant find a part ?? i do now !!!
damn water pump , hopefully i didnt trow it away !

Here are a couple pics of the cast impellers Jack mentioned. I counted four of these this morning without digging through much stuff. 8)

Anytime Jack. 8)

I wanted to use one on my 200 but didn't want to chance a bad seal or bearing. I talked with my machinst and he told me there's a place in the Portland, OR area that rebuilds water pumps. One of these days I'll get at least one of them rebuilt for a future project.

hmmmm... would it be possible to build an electric water pump?
harrie, you want another project? sounds like a good one to me
(did i spell your name correctly?)

asa .... name is correct , you dont gone believe this , but got already a electric water pump !!! made from a chevvy pump [ sorry guy,s 8) ]
it is making rpm for the right temperatuur , so when runnig hot the pump wil make more rpm , when cold it,s making verry little rpm !
like i did told , got a new friend , he,s diecasting aluminium .
