The last week has been rough on my spirits as I have been preparing the car for getting on the road. Here is a brief recap:
Friday 18 April: have car together, go to fill cooling system up only to find I had installed the head gasket on backwards (front to back).
Wednesday, 23 Apr: Have car back together, everything seems fine but can't figure out why I have no spark and only 1-3V to the coil. Find out ignition wire is hooked up to water temp sender and vice versa.
Thursday, 24 APR: AM: fire car up and it fires right up, but is loud as all get out. Very bad exhaust leak from the pipe/manifold connection. Finished running in the new cam and then went to work.
PM: Fix exhaust leak only to find #6 piston counterweight striking the oil pan.
Friday, APR 15: Drop oil pan to beat back into shape. Shear crossmember bolt while removing crossmember to get to oil pan. While beating oil pan back into shape, develop small hairline crack in oil pan. Gotta love JB Weld...(on the outside of course).
Saturday, 26 April: Refill oil pan and restart engine. Car hardly runs, but isn't hitting the oil pan and the oil pan isn't leaking. Oil starts spurting out of small exhaust leak on the manifold/pipe connection. It starts raining...I stop. Later on VMF chat find out that I may have a leaking fuel pump.
Sunday, April 27: Check oil...smells like gas...very strong gas smell at that. Drain oil, change filter (for 3rd time in a week). Replace fuel pump. Rehook everything. Car fires right up. Now a vacuum leak at the carb. I can't get the idle below 1000 RPM and engine is running lean. I also manage to hook up all 3 carbs and get it running pretty smooth other then the vacuum leak on the center carb. Car sounds very strong now...finally a good day.
Should be getting my driveshaft back this week for my T-5 tranny...and my car will be drivable by next weekend. My only concern is the missing crossmember so I will probably only be driven to my new house and then taken to a mustang shop to fix the crossmember.
