I just purchased a 62 Falcon with a 170 in it. About 60 days ago I bought a 66 mustang with a 200 I6 and it is currently in the paint shop. I am really hooked on these sixes! I need to know to positively ID the engine in the Falcon as a 170 and not a 144. I am sure one of you can tell me how. I think I am going to be spending a lot of money with Mike at FSPP in the coming year

Try a bit of brazing rod poked down a plug hole. Measure the total distance between the most it pokes out, and the least it pokes out as you slowly turn the motor with your hands on the crank balancer or fan blades.

Remove the coil lead and battery ground cable before you do any of the above. You can't predict what gremlins may be in there!

Cheers, Adam.
