Late model head Question

Hey Guys, maybe this question has been thrown around before but I wanted to ask again. Are there any differences in the late 70's early 80's heads? I was wondering if there were any years better or worse or are they all the same? If not which one would be better for me as I want to swap in a late model head onto my 67 200 in my 65 mustang. I am aware of the .075 milling, hardened washers, ETC. I was just wondering if a certain year or years are better than others. I have located an 81 Mustang 200ci I can get the head off of.
Thanks, Mike

Howdy Back Mike:

About the only real difference is a window on the outside of the intake log, just below the carb mounting pad. The window has tapped bolt holes on either side of it so it can easily be sealed by fabricating a small plate to cover it.

Can you get the carb, with cable and pedal, air cleaner system, Dura Spark II ignition system and vavle cover as well? While the 1981 Holley #1946 is not my favorite one barrel it will be the quick-and-easy piece because of the carb to head adapter, the vacuum signal to the DSII distributor and the ability to use the '81 "Climatic Control" air cleaner system. The last two item are some of Ford's better ideas. The Holley #1946 was first used on the 200s in 1980 and remained until the end of production of the 200 for auto uses. It gradually became more encumbered with EPA crutches to meet standards.

The pedal, cable, and valve cover will all make adapting to a cable throttle system much easier.

What is the casting code on the intake manifold, located just behind the carb mount?

It soulnds like you have the rest of the conversion pretty well researched. If you have any questions, don't hesitate.

Adios, David

David, Thanks for the reply. I already have the DSII and I am using a cable setup already. The Carb I am using is a Carter YF from a 79 250 ci with a modified carb plate which works great . As for all of that I am good, although I will be pulling all of that because those parts are so hard to come by.
