lifter question

Need some help here...
Have a 83 Futura with a 200 that runs funny. Blows fuel mixture back thru carb when running and will not rev over idle and finally stalls. Replaced timing chain- no difference. Removed exhaust pipe- no difference. Removed 1 plug- engine ran longer, but rougher. Removed different plugs- same thing. Removing 2 - 3 plugs at a time resulted in an extremely rough idle but was able to rev engine considerably.
Rocker arms look fine so I,n guessing either a flat cam or collapsed lifters.
Does anyone have any other ideas? I,m about ready to order a new cam and lifter set or go with option 2 which is to swap in a running 250 &C4 from a freebie 80 granada.
P.S. Compression is 110-120 psi on all cylinders so I,d like to keep this engine.

sounds like a vaccum problem.

a collapsed lifter would make a lot of noise ( i know)

your compression seems really low. IIRC, you should be around 150-170 psi, depending on what kind of compression test you did.

My guess: Check your timing, make sure you are not off a tooth or more (or worse, 180* out). Double check you TDC mark and make sure you are on the compression stroke when the rotor is at the spot for #1 wire post.

Thanks for all the info guys, but the issue has been solved. Pulled the camshaft this weekend.
Cam lobes were flattened.
Friend of mine suggested new cam and lifters and oil pump.
Seems he remembered a similiar problem on another site (he does,nt remember where) that was caused by low oil pressure.
Anyways I compared the old cam with a new 1 from my local parts store, it was obvious. Now to the tough decision , pull the oil pan and a new pump plus cam and lifters.
Or the freeebie 250...Hmmmm.

The 250 would be fun, but will be a major pain to fit in that Futura.

stock replacement - about $125 with lifters

Have'nt checked on performance cam yet, or may go stock cam with 1.6 ratio rockers, or performance cam with rhoads lifters to keep idle smooth

SOOOOO many options !!!!
