Lining Up Head Gasket and Cylinder Head

I'm getting ready to install my fresh cylinder head and new gasket on my 81 Granada 200 6-cylinder.

This engine doen't have any dowel pins in the block to align the cylinder head. I'm thinking of using 7/16 x 14 threaded rod on opposing corners of the head to keep everything lined up. The head bolts are 7/16 x 14 thread.

Anyone else do anything different?

Yup, you're on the right track, I'd suggest buying a few bolts of the same size, maybe a bit longer.
Cut the heads off and screw 'em in, instant dowel.

yep, slot the tops of the bolts after you cut the heads off them, makes it easier to screw them back out. Amazing how hard the head is to put on compared to a small block of any kind!
