Load-0-Matic issues.....still

If you go with any newer than 67 dizzy (including the dui) you can just run the vacuum advance direct off the manifold. Thats not how the factory did it but most of us find it to perform quite well.

Vacuum advance is a benefit for engines that dont run at constant loads. A constant load would be a tractor, boat, airplane, genarator, things like that.

My recently rebuilt Cadillac motor tried to eat itself and stranded me out of town on the interstate yesterday so my schedule is pretty screwed up and I have not had time to throw a vacuum gauge on the mustang.

Bringing this back up for an update

I did a leak down test on the distribibuter and found it's losing presure so I have replaced the distibuter with a dui mechanical advance distributer(no vacume version)

Still had the dying under load issue and I beleive I found the problem. The housing for the accelerator pump was warped causing gas to squirt out between the pump housing and carb body.

Furthur inspection showed the carb body itself is warped where the accelerator pump screws into.

This has lead me beleive that this carb is pretty much non repairable.

I have come across another autolite 1100 that I am thinking about trying to rebuild. Everything looks pretty good as far as being a canidate for a rebuild.

This carb according to the tag came from a 64 falcon but is an automatic version(two accelerater pumps).

A couple of concerns perhaps you all can answer........

Any issues with using this on a manual tranny truck??

Since I have eliminated the need for vacume advance with the dui will this carb function well in this new set-up

I'd really like to keep an autolite on this truck as it well eliminate the need for modification to throttle linkages, chokes, etc or neccisitate adapter plates with going to a different carb

That would certainly contribute to, if not explain it dying under load (or when you step on the gas).

No, this should not affect performance. Second accel pump is actually called 'anti-stall dash pot'. It really acts almost more like a 'shock absorber' (okay wierd analogy) on the carb to dampen the accel pump return and sustain additional fuel feed a little longer when you left off the gas and engine braking from auto tranny occurs. Mostly found on automatics, but should not impact and can even help performance on manauals.

Just make sure the vacum port on the carb for the dizzy is plugged/capped. You can leave the scv where it is at.

I would also be sure you can verify timing, as may have been mentioned, the timing mark is prone to moving around on these engines when the rubber in the harmonic balancer starts to wear out. You can either physically verify tdc by checking for pressure on #1 with your thumb on the spark plug hole (when you feel pressure pushing your thumb off you're on compression stroke approaching tdc), with a probe and checking for intake valve closing, or hook vacum guage to manifold and set timing for max vacum at idle.

Hope this helps.
