Loadomatic Distributor ID

Hey guys,
Okay, I'm starting to undertand it better. I now know you need to have the correct distributor with the matched carburetor, i.e. Loadomatic distributor with a carb that has the spark control valve or a mechanical advance distributor with a carburetor that sends the right signal. So here are my questions.

1. I'm pretty sure my spare distributor is a Loadomatic. The 1953 Ford truck manual says the part number for a 215 ci distributor is FAA 12127-C. The tag on my spare distributor is a FAA 12127-A. I'm guessing this is the right distributor, despite it being an A and not a C? Is that correct?

2. Is there a way to physically tell the difference between a Loadomatic and non-Loadomatic without the distributor tag?

3. Can anyone recommend someone to rebuild the Loadomatic referenced above (in question 1)?

Thanks for your help!

My 1949-51 Ford passenger car shop manual shows the 12127 and the 12127C. It shows the C being for 49,early50 v-8 7HA(6cyl) and 7RA(8Cyl) engines. Not sure about the FAA. The distributors are very easy to disassemble and clean. If the bushing is out of spec, it will need to be pressed out and replaced. Be careful with the breaker plate springs too. If you tweak them, your curve will be off. GMC Bubba can fix you up for about $80, but you should do it yourself and save the $$$.

One easy way to tell is look for the mechanical advance (centrifical weights). If they are missing, it's a LOM.
