I've ran out of room after adding a clifford adapter, 1/2" spacer, and a 2brl demon carb. Does anyone know of an extremely low profile air cleaner assy probably needs to be less then 3" tall? I haven't had a chance to measure it for the exact amount of space left, but I have a holley air cleaner thats about 3" tall and it doesnt work.

actually no I haven't. I didn't really know about them until I just looked them up. It looks like they drop down around your carb instead of going upwards from the carb. Is this correct? I hope so, that would be great!

Here is a low profile air cleaner from, Big B Auto 866-392-2442.
2195box 14x3 chrome air cleaner-recessed base $15.00.
Will fit holley carbs & others with the same air horn diameter.

I have a direct mounted carb on the log manifold & I have at least 1 1/2 " clearance to my hood on my 67 mustang.

Hope this helps you, William

I looked on Summit's site for drop base cleaners, they had Net height from base (in): and the smallest I could find is 2 1/2", so I made a ring out of cardboard 2 1/2" tall and the hood would be resting on it. So I need something that is about 2 - 2 1/4" from the base tall. Any ideas or how tall is yours from the base?

You can buy that air cleaner and switch filters to a 2" instead of the 3". That should do it.

hmm. I should have thought about that. Sorry for wasting everyones time. BTW anyone selling common sence?

yup I send it to ya for 100 bucks in a box.. all you have to do is open it... just make sure your over it or it may not goto you... I accept checks money orders and paypal... I think we all go through brain farts... and the why didnt I think of thats....

If you purchase this rescessed base air cleaner, it comes with a filter from tiawan.
The wix # is 42095 which will serve as a replacement filter for this air filter being a 14 X 3" filter.
I threw out the import filter & put in a quality american filter on my application.
Go on line & you can cross reference the wix 42095 to other filter manufacturers.
The filter that comes with the air cleaner may be ok, but I want a quality made american filter made in the USA in my car.
If the filter was made in japan it would be a quality filter.
Hope i don't tick anyone off but the junk that comes out of the orient with the expection of japan is like the japs used to produce in the 1950's & early 60's.
Again it it offends you tough darts, just telling like it is.
Buy american. William

Not necesarily. If you place the base on the carb, then put on the lid (on some brands) the lid will hit the top of the carb fore you take up that 1" of space. You may have to run a 2-1/2" element.

Buy american. William

Contradiction in terms??? You know the chrome parts weren't made in the USA, right? :?

Linc, I know the base & top come from taiwan, if I could have found a unit made in the USA, even if it costs $50.00 I would have purchased it.

I would rather use the filter element from the USA, just because of flow & quality of manufacturing.

You are right about the clearance between the top cover & carb air horn. I believe the shortest filter that you can use is about 2 3/4.
I think I found a listing for a 14" diameter & 2 3/4 " height from a olds diesel application from the 1980's.

If anyone is interested let me know and I will pinpoint the proper filter number. William

I have just about conceded that it is (almost) impossible to "Buy American" anywhere anymore. too bad.

Link, that is so true. I almost try not to buy from walmart unless I have to.
You really have to shop at very professional stores to stay away from products made in taiwan.

I will give them credit, their products are improving but still not the quality of say a full roller timing chain for our sixes from austrailia.
that is a quality part.
If we stopped buying products from the far east, maybe their costs would escalate closer to the US market.

The problem is they work for peanuts.

on the hijack....

yeah I hate buying non US stuff. I eat starters in my car. they just can't handle daily driving it seems. but I just keep tossing them in there since the only option for a USA starter is a mini starter for $$$

Go the mini starter route.

I have had no problems since I installed mine & the weight is less than 1/2 the weight. William
