making my own muffler

Well, I guess we all have to draw the line in different places.

Yeah, I am wasting my time and $$ with a six - but you aren't about to catch me in the garage casting my own pistons out of melted aluminum cans either.

I think in this particular case its more of a return on the dollar issue. It would be similar to a guy spending 500$ to build his own headers that ended up looking like crap. I think we would all say "why?".

In this case, he spent more to build his own muffler than it would have cost to buy one. Sure, he can say he built his own muffler... and if that is important to you then great. But when you say that, there are going to be some of us who just look at you and think "why?".

That is all. Keep it up :)

fight the establishment! power to the individualists!

seriously, though, cool. I used to make mufflers for lawn mowers out of coffee cans (much quieter than the little screw in jobs). May not have looked the best, But I made it.

I ask "why" from an economical standpoint.

If you can save a few bux on the little things, it makes the bigger purchases much easier. That extra 30+ just to say I did it, could have bought the odd and end gaskets, plugs, etc. etc. :D

I think its great when people do their own fabrication, more power to ya, include pix and vid's, but I gotta ask "why" when it can be found cheaper? :D

It still amazes me to see people ask "why would you do that" on this board :P

why, cause we're all nuts, that's we we are taking a tractor engine and trying to make them fast!

Hey, I resemble that!

Reckon that's why I still do farm work with draft horses. Because I'm nuts! And I love it!

I hear tell there are actually folks who pay money to go watch a bunch of rich guys chase a ball around... :?

Reckon that's a reasonable question. I believe the answer is maybe "personal satisfaction". My daughter raises sheep; she shears them herself, washes and cards the wool, then spins it by hand with her spinning wheel. Last winter she knitted a wonderful pair of socks for me that I will cherish for a long, long time. She could have gone to WalMart and bought a pair MUCH cheaper but that just wouldn't be quite the same. Some things are more valuable than money.

Oh boy.... :D ....as much as I want too....Im not even gonna touch that one. Your right, that could be one possibility.

Have a good one.

Why?? The same reason a kid wants legos to build stuff that doesn't work well if it works at all and will soon fall apart. Because it is fun!
