matching TC to Cam

So I've got my new engine pretty well tuned and it sure runs strong. Nevertheless, The idle speed difference between neutral or park and drive is about 400 to 500 rpm. Even then, it's pretty loaded down and idles lumpy and poorly. I have a stock late model TC in there (http://gopnh.com/Automotive-Part-Number.cfm) and it is generally acceptable except for a bit of a lazy launch and that idle problem. I'm new to hipo automatics so I'm not sure what my best choice is in terms of stall speed, or even where to get a TC for these cars. Mine has the kind with the ring gear on the TC. So the question is:

What stall speed would be good for a street car which prefers to idle at 800 or 900 rpm?
Where to find such a beast?

Thanks again!

The Best Compromise for a Street drivin Car is to have the Flash Stall, at least 1000 rpm's into the cams working range, unfortunately the 200 and smaller 6's use a Converter with the ring gear on the converter , a converter can be built but it will be in excess of 600.00 , try running as much initial timing ( up to 24 degrees ) as the starter will handle , limit the total to 32-36 degrees and that will help with low end

Why so darned expensive? Summit has any torque converter you want for a v-8 for a few hundred, but for one of these, forget it! I wonder if Mike is working on stocking a hi-stall converter?

A high stall converter for a Falcon 6 is NOT , something that is common, that's the bottom line, sometimes being different means more expensive as well , sorry , a more reasonable Source would be nice.

The more common something is the less expensive it can be to purchase or fix.

There's more parts to purchase on a rebuild kit for a 350 Chevy engine than our six, but which one is less expensive?

Tell me about it, I work in the film business. I can pay $300 for a 14.4 volt camera battery, but it turns out you can buy a DeWalt drill battery for $50 that will work even better!

Thanks for the link!

when you are dealing with low volume items, like higher stall speed converters for the ford six, you have a high break even point, where as with high volume items, like a higher stall speed converter for a small block ford or a chevy, your break even point is much lower, thus you can price high volume items much lower than lower volume items.

Thanks guys. I understand the econ 101 principles at work here, but $600 is way out of whack for something commonly available for $150 to $250. That $300 deal in Phoenix is sounding pretty good and I even have a spare one to send them. All I'd have to muster is the motivation to put the bugger in. Downsized my idle jet and got the idle even smoother now, so my motivation is waning, lol. Plus, I'd rather spend the dough on some rust remediation and a nice stainless dual exhaust that goes "burble, burble, vrrrroooooaaaaar!" now that my redline is 6k.
