Mike, I have to agree with you on that point, the offy does have one up on the coolness scale. But as I stated earlier, a lot of the guys with OZ heads choose that direction simple because they didn't want to mess with multiple carbs. Even Doug, with all his talents, went back to a single 2V and is getting better performance to boot.
I think some decisions are based more on skills or easy of the modification, althought coolness and cost do have a bearing on the decision.
I originally choose the OZ head for that very reason. I wanted a single carb as compared to multiple carbs (performance being equal either way) as the plan was for a daily driver. Coolness (looks) was not much of a factor. To me, the coolness is getting the six to out run a V8. After all, how many people actually see whats under the hood. The only time I pop the hood is at the local cruise ins or car shows, and most of those guys do recognize the difference.
Now, two years later, I am swithcing to multiple carbs, but still with the OZ head. Performance is a factor in my decision, and coolness is right up there too, but the main reason, I got them for a very reasonable price and the car is no longer a daily driver. How many have triple sidedrafts (1V or 2V) on their sixes? I think you could count them on one hand.
Now if you really want to talk coolness, add one of Mikensons gear drives. You don't even need to pop the hood to get attention.
Bottom line, I think we have all agreed that any mod over a single 1V enhances the coolness, and that all three mods (modified log 2V , modified log multiple carbs, or the OZ 250-2v) can achieve about the same performance levels. Therefore the decision is based on primarily one underlying factor. If it is cost, and you have the skills and resources, then by all means modify the log head and add a 2V. If it is coolness, and you have the tuning skills, then multiple carbs are the way to go. But if you are looking for reliable performance, have only basic skills, want a proven 50% increase with a bolt on modification, then the OZ 250-2V is worth the extra money.
