Thought Id finish up w/ What I learned. Those of you who followed this exciting tail remember I have a friend w/ a 170 in Ranchero. We sent the engine out to a local rebuild shop & I looked around for carb bits. No luck, the carb isnt described in any of my old shop manuals, & a rebuild kit for that make/etc yielded different gaskets, etc. Various chaps sent me links to various places, & offered up suggestions. Nothing quite matched up, with the 1940 type being closest, as it had a twin float on a single shaft. ANYHOW, I dropped by a carb shop & the guy ID'd it immediatly. The story as he told me was that the factory 1bbls , all thru the 60's, 144-300 engines using the mdle 1100's, were complete troublesome crap. After years of trouble, Ford contracted Holley for a across the board bailout carb. The carb holley built is this item, they were sent out in Ford boxes all over the country, & fit by Ford dealers as a fix. The annular rings & vacuum metered fuel jet made it unfamiliar to me. (not being a diaphragm type) At any rate, the fellow said its damn near hard to get a kit for them, & he gets $300. for them when he can find them. I gave the instrument over to his experienced care, I aint paying the bill ($140, "as new") Thnx to all for your help...mutt
