Well, it's confirmed. My 65 200 has a 170 head. :( I measured chamber volume at 48 cc's, and intake volume at less than 900 cc's. It's also got the kidney bean shaped chamber as David pointed out earlier. Before I realized this, I had already sprung for an Autolite 2100 and FSPP oversize valves (not installed yet), and was planning on having it ported/unshrouded, a port divider installed, and milled to compensate for the Felpro gasket thickness.

Will the oversize valves even fit in this head? If so, will the intake be able to take advantage of the 2100 and the oversize valves, or should I start looking for a different head?

Thanks in advance
Mark

Anyone?????

Is the 2100 and the oversize valves more than the 170 manifold can supply?

What size 2100? they were available in anywhere from 190cfm to over 400cfm. The chamber can always be enlarged (unshrouding will do that some anyways). The kidney shape is considered very efficient by some. You have a narrow round log i assume. I would suggest finding a later head if matching #'s arn't a concern as the machine work on your head may out cost a replacement and also you can get the headwork done without disableing you car.(if that is a concern).

danwagon,
It's a 300 CFM Autolite, round log. I've got the car apart for the winter anyway, so losing the head to the machine shop for a while isn't a problem. I'll probably just keep my eyes open for a 200-250 head, and if one doesn't show up in a month or two I'll have the 170 worked on. Just wish those passages were bigger.
