There is a re-curved electronic distrib on the engine I'm working on and it needs a new cap. The cap looks like same as points setup. NAPA guys couldn't find Electronic Distrib application . Is it same as points one?.

I know DS-II has the big blue cap, this is a DS-I ??.

What years applicaton do I ask for?

The Clifford re-curved DS distrib on this motor has side clips not screw retainers. Does the 75-76 have clips or screws. this was the confusion I had at my NAPA store. Their book shows screws for the 75/76 app.

What the heck is the app.??.

The newer cap uses a screw on adapter at the base which has clips on it for attaching the cap. The older "points looking" cap only uses 2 screws to attach to the dizzy, it does not need the adapter.

NAPA item # ECHFA69
$17.99
or
NAPA item # MPEFA104SB
$7.99

the adaptor on DS2 distributors is only needed for the big cap with the male plug terminals.
A smaller cap is also available, quite similar to the points-type cap.

I have seen DS1 distributors before, those early units basically had a points-type housing with spring clips and a points-type cap. I bet it even was a common breaker point distributor cap.

below, you see a common black breaker point cap, right next to a small DS2cap (breakerpoint style)

below, you see what the DS2 pattern looks like, on both distributor and cap.
the big cap with the male terminals spaces widely apart uses an adaptor with the same pattern. I´d have shot a pic of that as well, but its out in the garage somewhere.

numbers for the small caps for DS2:

- Motorcraft EDH 109
- Standard FD148
- Echlin FA104
- mileage plus FA104SB
- Facet 2-7787PHT

numbers for the big cap:

- Echlin FA136 (cap)
- Echlin FA139 (adaptor)

- mileage plus FA136SB (cap)
- mileage plus FA139SB (adaptor)

- Conrad F2104G (cap)

i know that for a '68 300, it still had the spring clips, and thats a points setup (why else would i choose that year to put in my 86?) i would assume the small-blocks to have a similar setup.
if you already have a cap that needs replacing, take it into hte store with you to match it, they should have every common one in stock to compare to.

I pulled the Distributor out and got the casting # of C4xx . Turns out only the '74 used the same points cap and points rotor with the Electronic (DS1?) modules. ISn't the 75-76 called DS1 and later electronics called DS2?. THat would make this Ignition a DS1 - Beta version. As I explained this is from the Clifford Six Performance built 250 and was re-curved by them for the total performance package..
